Society VS YOU

Next time you're watching TV (which you should cut down as much as you can) really pay attention to the commercials. More importantly pay attention to the portrayal of men in contrast to women.

Men are always wrong. Women are always right.

Nearly every single commercial is directed at women. Yes, women have a higher propensity to shop and consume, but mainly because of their constant presence in the retail environment. Without getting into the major social motivations of consumerism and self-worth, women are constantly striving to maintain their value (beauty) for as long as possible, thus they're spending money.

The 08 Summer Games - did you watch them? My bet is that the majority of events you saw were woman's events, followed by woman's athletic commercials.

The point I'm trying to make here is that - being a man has become a societal faux pas.

Masculinity, dominance, power, wisdom have all be cast aside in favor of: Femininity, submission, incompetence, and ignorance.

Think about this. Why do we tolerate so much bullshit in our society?

Societies of past were built, protected and survived on the honor of strong men.

So what is strength? And why do so many men lack it?

Ryoku is Japanese for strength. Are you strong?

I'm a big anime guy. I find that they are able to convey significant ideas without the burden of people. This clip is from Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen, an OVA about a master swordsman. The reason I chose this clip is because it identifies weakness, confronts it and forces a shift in a boy's world - the pursuit of strength. It's incredibly violent and painful, but is really an artful work demonstrating what weakness will bring.

I highly suggest watching all of it. At least from 1:50 - 6:30ish.

All the best - Ryoku
